Vijay Deverakonda on being questioned by ED over Liger funding: ‘Popularity comes with side effects’

Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Hyderabad on Wednesday regarding the funding sources for his bilingual film, Liger. Following a 12-hour interrogation, Deverakonda addressed the media, stating that the ED sought “some clarifications,” and he provided answers to all their inquiries. The actor emphasized viewing the questioning as an “experience” and acknowledged that fame comes with its share of side effects.

Speaking to reporters, Deverakonda shared, “I arrived here this morning. They needed some clarifications, and I responded to all the questions. The love you all give me results in popularity and fame. However, popularity brings along certain challenges. This is one such aspect, but it’s an experience, a part of life. I fulfilled my duty when called upon; I came and addressed their questions. No allegations were made; they required clarifications.”

Previously, Liger’s director, Puri Jagannadh, and actor-producer Charmme Kaur had also undergone questioning by the ED. The investigation aims to determine if there were any violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) related to payments made to former boxer Mike Tyson, who made a special appearance in the film.

A complaint filed with the ED by Congress leader Bakka Judson from Warangal alleged that several politicians had invested in the Rs 125 crore movie to convert black money into white. Speculations suggested that the ED was examining the funding sources of all actors in the sports drama, where Vijay Deverakonda portrayed the role of a boxer. The film, also featuring Ananya Panday, was released in August of the current year.
